I’m already tired of the 2008 campaign and it’s not even 2008 yet. We used to have to go through this only one
year out of four. Now it’s two years out
of four. Do you realize this stupid
campaign began in February? Some of
these characters were popping off at the mouth even before that.
All of the Democratic candidates are appeasing the left. All of the Republicans are appeasing the right (with
the exception of Ron Paul and I mercifully won’t say anything about him today
because as William Shakespeare once put it,
“The quality of mercy is mightiest in the mightiest”).
But anyway, they all sprint to the far sides so they can win the primaries. Then,
after the primaries, and after the
conventions and after two candidates are selected, (three if we count Ron Paul
who will probably run on some third party ticket) the two main candidates will
move toward the center and try to please everybody. Of course, in reality, they will please
nobody.
The Republican candidate will talk about poverty and health care so that he
can try to sound like something short of
a liberal, known as a “moderate”.
The Democrat will do the same, attempting to look a bit more conservative
and a lot more moderate with speeches like the following:
“Even
if I protect a woman’s right to choose, I personally am against abortion. Let
me be abundantly clear on this point.”
Wow! What a brilliant, original, yet
meaningless phrase that will be.
“ I think abortion is evil, despicable…reprehensible ! But if you want to have one, it’s OK”
Politics. You just gotta love it. The
only guys I like listening to are the ones who know they won’t win. They speak
their minds because they have nothing to lose and everything to gain: Attention.
Ironically, if one of them really connected, really took off, and really
got the nomination then he’d immediately
stop speaking his mind and head for the center like all the others.
Do you know what I like about
politics? Nothing!!!
