Maybe It's Everyone's Fault But The One Who Did It

As you know, a 19 year old kid gunned down holiday shoppers at a mall in Omaha, Nebraska, killing 8, wounding 5 and then killing himself.

We know the kid’s name but I will not repeat his name on my blog or radio show.  This is because the kid said before he died, “Now my name will be famous.”

My heart goes out to the families of the victims, and my prayers for the wounded who will hopefully have a speedy recovery.

As always, these tragedies are made worse when people try to excuse the killer’s actions.

“He was a troubled teen.”

“He was disturbed.”

“When he was a kid, his mother never filled his little Christmas stocking with Reese’s Pieces.”

Already friends and neighbors are saying he’s not the kind of person who could ever have done this sort of thing.

“Um…but he did do it.”

“Oh, but you see, he didn’t believe in violence.”

Tell that to the families of the dead. Am I crazy?  Gunning down a bunch of people in a mall seems kind of violent to me.

One of his friends even said that he thinks no less of him.  If you can’t think less of a murderer, who can you think less of? You got it, George Bush!  Thank you for playing. As always, it’s the fault of that horrible George Bush.  The liberals are at it again.  If we didn’t live under such a sinister government, the poor kid wouldn’t have had to kill people.

Well if nothing is ever anybody’s fault then why blame the government? Maybe the reason poor George Bush does such a bum job as president is that his mother never bought him a sled when he was a kid.

But of course, there’s a theory even better than Bush. The real problem, once again, is lack of gun control.  Gun control.  You just gotta love it. Why don’t we lock up all the guns?  Let’s not lock up people.  Let’s just put the guns in jail.

Did you know guns weren’t allowed in this mall?  They’re legal in the city of
Omaha but this mall had a zero gun tolerance policy even for those licensed to carry them.  Boy,that took care of the problem, didn’t it? There were signs all over the mall: “Concealed weapons not allowed.”

So honest law abiding citizens read the signs and obey them. Creeps read the signs and say to themselves. “The pickings are easy at this mall.”

What were they thinking? Here’s some kid who wants to kill as many people as he can. He stops and says, “Oh but wait. If I bring a gun to the mall I won’t be obeying the rules. Gee. I guess the shooting spree is cancelled for today.”

We make excuses for killers. Killers don’t seem to concern us anymore. Smokers concern us.  Global warming concerns us. The rich not being taxed enough concerns us. Santa Claus saying, "Ho, Ho, Ho" concerns us. But murder?  There we need to be understanding.

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.
