Now that he's certain of the Democratic nomination (I didn't say Hillary was certain. I just said he's certain) Barak Obama gave a speech at a Jewish gathering this morning to clean up his tarnished image with Jewish Democrats and to assure them that he really is Pro-Israel. His ties to Anti-Semites like Rev. Wright and Louis Farrakhan should be ignored. So should all the Palestinian meetings he's attended. Oh! And the talks he will have with Ahamadinnejad, who denies the Holocaust ever happened but says he plans a new one anyway, well, never mind him either. Obama will still be Israel's staunch defender. Make no mistake about that.
How exactly will he defend them? That part wasn't made too clear. Don't tell me. Let me guess. He'll broker some deal even better than the yellow brick road map to peace. Barak himself will sit down at a great big table with the Israelis and Palestinians. This will be the deal: "You give the Palestinians back some more land and here's what they'll do for you. They'll promise to quit strapping bombs to their children to blow up Jews. Then, one day after you sign the treaty and they kill more Jews anyway, well, then you can maybe give them back some additional land. Sound fair?"
If I were a Jew, I would not find Obama too reassuring. Come to think of it, I am a Jew and I don't!
This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.
