Now that he's actually been to Iraq for the first time in years, talked to our generals, and seen for himself that the surge has indeed been working, Obama was presented with a fair question: "If you could do it again, knowing what you know now, would you have voted for the surge?"
His answer sounded something like this:
"Ah, well at that time, I felt that one should feel the way he feels and I had those feelings. Undeniably the situation has gotten better, probably because of the Sunnis, but Ah..Um..Yeah...There has also been a surge. I will still bring our troops home but I would consult with the generals first and if they don't want me to bring them home I might still bring them home because MoveOn.Org wants me to bring them home but I would only bring them home in such a way that I have some of them stay. How many will stay? Not so many as to make it look like we really stay, but enough to make it look like we didn't really go. There's a time table too. Everyone will leave according to the table and when the table is up, some will have gone and some will have stayed. After all, we cannot destabilize the region. But we can tableize the region and that's why I have a time table. Of course, we have no business being in the region anyway, so I will kind of, sort of, bring them home and maybe let some of them stay and this has always been my position. Now then, can you leave me alone and just let me finish my waffle?"
