Before talking about the same recent Saturday Night Life
routine that everyone else is talking about, let me begin by saying that I am a
former fan of Saturday Night Live. I even own the second season on DVD.
I love the original cast and I also enjoyed the show years later during the
time of Mike Myers, Dana Carvey, Phil Hartman, etc. Irreverent humor does not
bother me. That the show has gone down hill, is disputed by few. That their
humor has morphed from cutting edge to Politically Correct, is a sad lament.
And so, the era of Sarah Palin begins. Will this launch a new
series of routines rivaled only by Chevy Chase’s weekly
fall as President Ford? The
impersonation of Sarah was first rate if we are talking about voice and
mannerisms. Unfortunately, we were also led to believe that Sarah Palin is
stupid. Had she been a Pro-Choice running mate, nobody would be portraying her
that way. The genesis of Palin’s new reputation is that supposedly she did not
understand the “Bush Doctrine” when fair minded, even handed, objective Charlie
Gibson interviewed her on 20/20. Well, Charlie, evidently you don’t know
what the Bush Doctrine is either. Officially, there is no such thing as the
Bush Doctrine. Informally, there is a wide range of definitions. For the most
reliable information on the subject, let me recommend an article on Townhall
written by Charles Krauthammer in as much as he is the very first journalist to
ever coin the phrase. If anyone can tell us about the term, Bush
Doctrine, Krauthammer can. From this Pulitzer Prize winning writer, we
learn that smug Charlie simply did not know what he was talking about and Palin
was within her rights to ask Professor Gibson which “Bush Doctrine” he was
referring to.
Having said that, supposing she had not known? A college educated former mayor, current governor with
an 80 percent approval rating and a record of cleaning up corruption, is stupid
because she does not define “Bush Doctrine” exactly the way the media elite do?
Give me a break!
I don’t mind hearing or seeing an insinuation of stupidity
done with humor from Saturday Night Live or anywhere else, as long as we
are being entertained with some semblance of accuracy. It would also be
refreshing to see them parody both sides of the political isle once in a while.
How about stupidity from the Left? How about when people insist that Obama never
voted in favor of infanticide? Is it stupid of them to make such a claim? Granted,
that’s a horrible subject and there is absolutely nothing funny about it. Then
again, there is nothing funny about Saturday
Night Live these days either. Of course, SNL is a very small part of the media elite, but the “serious”
programs seem to display the same bias. I have seen five or six broadcasters,
including Alan Colmes of Fox News
defend the indefensible. Alan Colmes is actually a very intelligent person and
I would never say otherwise, even though in this particular case he is indeed
being stupid. That Obama voted against a law in Illinois
which would have protected the lives of babies born through botched abortions,
is a matter of public record. The only argument Alan offers is an emotional one.
Emotion is always the last resort when people enter a discussion fleeced of the
facts. All I hear from Alan is, “What a
terrible thing to say! How despicable, to accuse Obama of being in favor of
infanticide!” Well, Alan, I don’t know
what the man thinks in his heart of hearts, so who can say what he’s truly in
favor of? I do know how he voted. Yes. This is an outrageous accusation, except
for the fact that it is absolutely true. What else can we say?
But Obama’s vote for infanticide does not concern the media
elite. The real news is that Palin doesn’t understand the Bush Doctrine. Obama
is also friends with a self-confessed, unrepentant terrorist, but the media
elite are concerned that Palin’s husband once ran a stop sign. Obama’s pastor
preached hatred of America
for the 20 years that Obama attended his church, but the media elite are
concerned that Palin once prayed for God to show our country His will. Obama plans to
sit down and have unconditional talks with the Nazi, Jew hating, holocaust
denier, Ahamadinnejad. The media elite are concerned that Sarah Palin does not
have proper foreign policy experience.
Bill Clinton had zero foreign policy experience before he
was elected president. That didn’t matter, either to the serious media or the
fun folks at Saturday Night Live. The
week after Clinton was elected
(before he was inaugurated, mind you) SNL,
in a rare moment of mellowness, declared him the greatest president our country
ever had. Wow! Already better than George Washington or Abraham Lincoln, and he
hadn’t even taken office yet! When he finally did occupy the White House, Clinton
purposely declined to go after Osama Bin Laden on many occasions. I guess Saturday Night Live could be called
stupid for prematurely honoring one of the worst
presidents we’ve ever had and slanting their current, humorous opinion toward a
candidate whose foreign policy will be as bad if not worse. As for being funny;
the only thing funny, is that twenty years after it lost its edge, people still
watch this 90-minute mess of arrogance matched only by ignorance. You want
something even funnier? Many of the people who will be voting, get their news
exclusively from SNL and The Daily Show. Oh wait! I forgot about The Colbert Report. Now that’s funny! People will vote against Sarah
Palin, only because some comedians
told them she was stupid! Is there a bit of irony in the voting booth?
