Tragic as the brutal assault against Iranian protesters may be, Conservatives have expressed optimism about at least one wrinkle in this provocative news story: It might just wake people up once and for all about the weak and ineffective foreign policies of President Obama.
Don't count on it, my fellow Conservatives! Obama the Smooth has an uncanny ability to bounce back and come up smelling like a rose. Right now, he may be holding off, out of a desire to maintain some type of diplomatic rapport with Ahmadinnejad, but should this tyrant be overthrown, (apart from Obama's help) Obama will still find a way to grab credit for the historical twist. All he has to do is give a speech about how his softer tone abroad inspired a more peaceful government, unlike that dastardly George Bush! He'll say it with style. He'll say it with charisma. The New York Times will hail the speech as a masterpiece that rivals George Washington's farewell address. It will be amplified with Democratic talking points, distributed by MSNBC and presto: Watch how the hand is quicker than the eye! Obama knows how to take credit for anything good and he knows how to blame Bush for anything bad.
It doesn't have to come out that way. I suppose America could instead return to that long forgotten art called, thinking.
