Liars? OK, Since You Brought the Subject Up...

In Wednesday's speech before congress and before the nation, President Obama (very predictably) said that the opponents of his health care proposal have been using scare tactics and spreading lies. First of all, that is simply not true. The three "lies" in question were death panels, public funding of abortion, and health care for illegal aliens. Let's address them one at a time:

1) Death Panels:  No, the term "death panel" is not found in the bill, but extra funding for doctors to have life decision conversations with the elderly is in there. Why? Also, remember the stimulus bill, that other big, fat pile of paper that none of the congressmen read? It called for government oversight of medical treatment decisions based upon age, eating habits of the patient, etc.  This razed a lot of questions and it is unclear whether or not the humble little clause was ever removed, but it certainly said something about the sentiment of "death panels" in Washington. And then, there's the fact that every single country currently on government health care does rationing due to the cost, and has an abundance of horror stories; people who were insured but denied treatment anyway. Are you catching on? We do not need to see the phrase "death panel" to know that this is exactly what would rear its ugly heard if we turn to one-hundred percent government sponsored health care. Of course, Obama insists that the nanny state will not become the only option. Yeah, Obama says a lot of things. For reasons I have already shared in other blogs, I am convinced Obama knows that this "mere public option" would soon become the only option. I'll remind you of one of these reasons: If employers are forced to provide health care or pay a fine cheaper than health care, the private insurance will be immediately dropped and the cheaper government option will remain the only choice for the disgruntled workers, unless by some amazing miracle, a private company cheaper than the government's rides into town.

2) Abortion: Republicans tried to add a provision to the bill that would forbid public health insurance covering abortion. Democrats voted it down. Now, if Obama is determined to buck his Democratic congress and allow that provision, fine. In the meantime, he should stop calling people liars. He only makes himself out to be a liar by doing so.

3) Illegals: As with abortion, Republicans tried to add a provision to the bill that would forbid public health insurance for illegal aliens. Democrats (big surprise) voted it down. This should end the discussion, but I'll offer more anyway. Obama insists that health care will not cover illegal aliens but this is difficult to believe. For one thing, illegals already get free care at our emergency rooms. Also, the 47 million uncovered Americans that Obama talked about so often, included illegals. Only recently, that figure was changed to 30 million. (After he was called to the carpet.) However, if Obama plans to grant amnesty (and he has given every indication of doing so) then this whole topic becomes a mute point anyway.

While we are on the subject of lies, how come Obama, in his heart felt zeal to bring both Republicans and Democrats together, didn't rebuke any lies from the Left, such as Rep. Diane Watson's whopper? She says the only reason people object to Obama's policies is because they do not want to support a black president.
