I usually do not endorse third party candidates because, as, a rule, they have no chance of winning and they split the vote, putting the Democrat in office. On the other hand, when a candidate for U.S. House of Representatives is Republican in name only, and when polls demonstrate that a true conservative such as Doug Hoffman ( of the Conservative Party coincidentally enough) has a good chance of taking the wreath, then I don't appreciate Newt Gingrich lecturing us on how we need to support the Republican Party. It always sounds good to talk about a "wide tent" and no, I don't think Republicans have to agree with each other about absolutely everything, but a touch of variety is a far cry from a Democrat merely wearing a Republican mask.
In any event, the discussion has taken a new turn: "Republican" Dede Scozzafava has dropped out of the race and endorsed Democratic candidate, Bill Owens.
Newt, we appreciate your loyalty. Can you come forth now and admit that in this particular case, the loyalty was misplaced? Sweet Dede certainly doesn't share the dedication toward Republicans that you yourself are calling for, does she?
