Waiting For the Better Gift

Nancy Pelosi says Universal Health Care will be our Christmas present. That's Ok, Nancy. We wouldn't want you to violate the laws of separation between church and state but forcing Americans who are not Christians to celebrate Christmas.

As for myself, one who does celebrate Christmas?  I'm holding out for next year's Christmas gift, seeing you dethroned as Speaker of the House in the 2010 elections.

The More They Learn, The More They Decide How Little They Know

First, we were told that his religion undoubtedly had nothing to do with the shooting at Ft. Hood. Sure, Nidal Malik Hasan was a Muslim, but that was no reason to jump to conclusions. Most likely, his religion was only a coincidence.

Next, we learned that he shouted "Allah Akbar!" while doing the shootings. But at that time we were gently reminded that this was a disturbed man, dealing with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, a common condition to people who have been on the battle field, even though, as of yet, Hasan had not been on the battle field. Doesn't matter. As an Army psychologist, he spoke to many who had, and this affected him.

Then we heard that Hasan was openly calling for Muslims to refuse to fight for America's "unjust foreign policy." The parallel commentary popped in on schedule:  "Yes, but Hasan had been ridiculed by fellow soldiers for being a Muslim and we must take this into consideration. Remember, as well, that most Muslims are very peaceful."

Around that time, Geraldo Rivera of Fox News said, "He could have had a toothache and gone off because of that."

Hmm... A toothache. Must have been a bad one. But the 13 people killed will never have a toothache or any other kind of ache again.

Next we found out that Hasan wrote blogs that glorified suicide bombers and gave a power point presentation in the Army where he said "We love death more than you love life." He also talked about how nonbelievers should be beheaded.

Asked how such an individual could have remained in the Army after these open proclamations, General George W. Casey promised it was being looked into. He also went on to say, that if we lost our diversity over this incident, it would be an "even greater tragedy."

Throughout the daily news reports constantly morphing into deeper revelation, we were admonished that even if Islam were found to be the motivating factor, we still cannot call this terrorism because Nidal Hasan was not connected to Al-Queda. That must have been a great comfort to the families of his victims. "Our son's murderer wasn't involved with Al-Queda? Whew! What a relief!"

Finally, we discovered that Hasan had indeed corresponded with Al-Queda. In the face of this news, Chris Matthews of MSNBC offered the topper of them all, a Pulitzer Prize caliber comment: "It isn't illegal to contact Al-Queda, is it?"

There was a time when we considered it an act of humility to appraise one's education and say, "The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know." But with so much of our mainstream journalism hijacked by Political Correctness, it seems that the more they learn, the more they decide how little they know. They do not want to know that there is any real danger from Muslim extremists, because such truth takes them away from their real crusade against "conservative extremists."  Remember when abortion doctor, George Tiller, was gunned down? Christians and Pro-Life organizations came out in hordes and condemned the killing immediately. But I do not recall our mainstream media asking us to "not jump to conclusions and remember that most Pro-Life people are very peaceful."

What Obama Said To Our Troops

WHAT PRESIDENT OBAMA SAID TO OUR TROOPS WHO HAVE NOT YET GONE TO AFGHANISTAN:  "I will never rush the solemn decision of sending you into harm's way."

No, I Have Not Been To Law School. So What?

Twice now, I have been chastised by attorneys, once after a lecture this past weekend in the Bay Area, and once a couple of years ago on the radio when I debated a lawyer over the air on The Rick Amato Show.

Each incident was fueled by the same subject; my contention that the words "separation between church and state" are not found in the constitution, but, rather, were drummed into our minds by a court case that interpreted the Establishment Clause in such a fashion. This led to my other controversial remark. "No where does the constitution say that it is the job of the Supreme Court to interpret the constitution. That tradition is a case law developed as a result of Marbury vs. Madison."

Both times, I was chewed out for talking about law without having gone to law school. On the radio, there was more time to pursue the challenge and I did so by asking my opponent how he felt about landmark Supreme Court rulings such as the Dred Scott Decision. Within minutes of that twist in conversation, the attorney hung up and ended the radio call.

The guy on the radio was not a Christian. Indeed, we were debating because he had recently made news by suing Army officers who talk too much about their faith with subordinates. The attorney in the audience was a Christian but still hated what I said, supposedly out of his respect for the law. Both men called me legally ignorant and said it in a very nasty, condescending tone. They enthusiastically pointed out that I had not been to law school.

Two observations: Interestingly enough, neither fellow refuted my position with actual facts. One would think that a couple of lawyers would understand the difference between a valid rebuttal and an Ad Hominem.

On the other hand, they certainly felt free to express themselves about Christianity. Not once did they hear me say, "Excuse me. I have been to seminary and you haven't. I guess that ends the discussion, doesn't it?"

Have certain professionals become so arrogant that one is not allowed to read the constitution for himself without being reminded that apart from law school he cannot possibly understand it? Perhaps this is the very idea that spawned so much irresponsible, nonsensical judicial activism.

Oh yes. For what it is worth; I have talked to law school graduates who agree with what I said about the Supreme Court. But why should that even matter? If you don't believe me, read our constitution. Just don't let a lawyer catch you reading it.

Oh Really? Well Maybe Jesus Wouldn't Have Acted Like You!

I spoke twice at a Presbyterian church in the Bay Area this past weekend. Part of the PCUSA, (a denomination that is becoming theologically and politically liberal) this particular local parish is still mostly conservative but with some liberal flavor trickling in. Therefore, the reaction to my teaching was mixed, mostly positive, but mixed. Unfortunately, those who are unhappy with a guest speaker make a louder noise. I guess they figure that the squeaky wheel will get the grease.

I am going to talk about two responses from the weekend but each in a separate blog since they were separate subjects.

Yesterday, in an adult Sunday School class of about 75 people, I taught on the bad reputation Christians have in the world, mostly based upon misinformation about Christianity.  My lecture definitely hit some hot button subjects including, Militant Islam and Militant Gay Activism.

When I was done, a gentleman raised his hand and said in a friendly voice. "I think the purpose of Talk Radio is to entertain and shock people. I do not believe Jesus would have had anything to do with Talk Radio." (No, he didn't mean that radio hadn't been invented yet.)

If that sounds like a question out of context, you need not be confused because you did not miss anything. I hadn't mentioned Talk Radio even once, although I was introduced as a Talk Radio Host. Still, I responded to the words which seemed to come from out of no where.

I said to the fellow, "I disagree.  There are all kinds of Talk Radio programs and it would be unfair to paint them all with one swift brush. Some are friendlier than others.  As a matter of fact, many Liberals enjoy listening to Conservative Host, Dennis Prager because he is so nice to his guests. I treat my guests with respect as well, even when they disagree with me. But yes, I also do political satire, and yes, on the radio, one seeks to entertain. But remember, with radio, unlike television, people are forced to think because they are exposed to words and thoughts rather than flashy images. It's the next best thing to reading."

We then moved on to other questions. My feeling, at the time, was that this was a not so bright comment but an innocent comment. Most people who put down Talk Radio have listened to little, if any, and are instead responding to what they have heard about Talk Radio. Still, in my mind, no big deal.

It was later in the day when I had a chance to catch my breath and reflect upon the conversation. I realized that there was more going on than met the eye. Again, I had not said anything about Talk Radio in my lecture but was introduced as a radio host. This meant the gentleman made a calculated decision to inform me that my line of work was something Jesus would not do. I wonder if he thinks Jesus would go out of his way to be rude to a fellow brother in Christ. Alas, I doubt very much that such a question will keep him up at nights.

Discussing this incident with another individual, (the man who invited me out to speak in the first place), I learned that the guy with the radio comment was actually bothered by our homosexuality discussion but had refrained from bringing up his true concern. That is, he refrained from saying anything to me. He was not shy about talking with others.

I have written much about homosexuality and will not get into it again here. There is an article below that you can link into if you want to understand more about where I was coming from. Suffices to say that I strongly urged people to reach out to homosexuals with love and compassion without compromising their convictions. I also shared a story of a gay man who cried after hearing about Christ's unconditional love for him. But this was balanced with concerns about Militant Gay Activists, and the freedom of speech being slowly taken away from Christians for offering any objection to their lifestyle. In addition, I talked about the politics associated with declassifying homosexuality as an emotional disorder in 1973 and in that vein, I mentioned that in 1995 the APA also declassified pedephilia. I warned that the day might come when those who object to pedephilia will be called "pedephilophobes."

The gentlemen in question, when asked by my friend how he felt about my presentation, accused me of "fear mongering" and "deliberately polarizing people." He also called me a "terrorist." I know he heard the part about reaching out to homosexuals in love and I know he didn't once hear me call for any kind of violence. I also know that he was listening with his feelings and not with his ears. Since this provocative fellow is actually a doctor, my friend asked him if what I said about the APA was true. He admitted that it was but claimed that emotionally he hated my talk anyway. I'm glad he at least admitted the role being played by emotions.

The standards Liberals have for themselves, compared to what they expect from Conservatives, never cease to amaze me. I guess calling me a terrorist, was not fear mongering on his part. No, not at all. Neither was it an example of him being polarizing.

Former Lesbian Expresses Concern About Hate Crime Legislation

The Bob Siegel Show is honored this week to offer a repeat broadcast: An interview with Anne Paulk, listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the country on the subject of homosexuality. Today's conventional wisdom teaches that people are born gay and can no more change their orientation than heterosexual people can change theirs. Anne's personal story boldly and effectively challenges this unquestioned teaching.

Anne also has strong concerns about impending Hate Crimes Legislation, which she feels will eventually suppress free speech and dissenting opinion on the subject of homosexuality.

A former lesbian, happily married to a former homosexual man, Anne has been a guest on Oprah, Good Morning America, 60 Minutes, Focus on the Family and the 700 Club.

Her story has appeared in hundreds of newspapers and magazines including, People, USA Today, Rolling Stone, Time, The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. In 1998, she was the cover story of Newsweek.

A courageous woman and articulate speaker, Anne encourages Christians to take a stand for their own rights without sacrificing compassion for the homosexual community.

Broadcast originally on 6-28-09 and repeated on 11-8-09, Anne's interview is now posted to my website: www.bobsiegel.net

Any Explanation Will Do Except the Obvious, Correct One.

Nidal Malik Hasan's brother went on Fox News yesterday, making it abundantly clear that Nidal was really a good American. Honestly and truly he was. Well, perhaps not quite as good as the brother would have us believe, inasmuch as Nidal gunned down 43 people, killing 13 and wounding the rest. I think the bar is raised a little higher when evaluating good Americans.

But brother Hasan is not alone in his attempt to give us the right perspective. In fact, the spin has never woven so quickly. Supposedly, Nidal  was a very disturbed gentleman psychologically, even though he worked as an Army psychologist himself.  Why would that piece of information be important? Because, the fact that this killer also happens to be a Muslim should be viewed as nothing but coincidence, a sad side truth which really has nothing to do with yesterday's massacre. Sure, he was a Muslim, but to dwell on this is wrong. That, at least, is the P.C. talking point.

Never mind that Hasan shouted, "Allah Akbar" (God is great! before blasting away. Never mind his recent internet postings glorifying  suicide bombings.  Never mind that he has been vocal in his beliefs that Muslims should rise up and stop America's "horrible overseas policies."

CAIR (that "moderate" American Muslim organization) sent a spokesman to Fox News this morning condemning the killings. Whew! Wow! Good for you, CAIR. We weren't sure you had it in you. Of course, the spokesman went on to remind us that violence has nothing to do with the religion of Islam. In fact, there is no connection whatsoever between these killings and Nidal's Muslim beliefs.  This from the organization which has been caught diverting funds to Hamas. Nicely done, CAIR. I wasn't expecting you to get through two sentences without your obligatory disclaimer. Where oh where would we get a crazy idea like the association of Islam with violence? Certainly not form the many Jihad commands in the Koran, or the life of Mohammad himself, or the Muslim murders all over today's globe.

Another story being circulated (but, as of yet, unsubstantiated) is that Nidal was ridiculed for his religion on the Army base. Assuming for a moment that this is true, the justification for shooting people somehow eludes me. Besides, with liberal lawyers breathing down the neck of our military, one has to believe that disciplinary action would have been taken, had Nidal reported these teasings.

Oh well. Just watch and see. Before it's over, the lesson will be that this violence is not the responsibility of a Muslim but, rather, the many Islamophobes at Ft. Hood.  For what it is worth, I honestly do not view Militant Islam as the worst threat to our country. It's the Political Correctness which will kill us. Unfortunately, after the smoke clears, that strange bedfellow of Political Correctness, will be the only one standing. His name? Islam.

Now We Know More

We just found out that the Ft. Hood sniper committed his act of violence in protest to U.S. foreign policy. I know, I know. Many Americans object to our foreign policy but they don't all pick up a gun and shoot their fellow soldiers. Oh, one more thing: The man is on record saying that Muslims in America have a right to rise up in violent protest to U.S. policy and that suicide bombers can be compared to heroic soldiers who fall on grenades.

That's enough for me. But it won't be enough for others. After all, don't forget: Islam is a religion of peace.

We At Least Have A Right To Ask

Well, big surprise. The latest act of terrorism which saw 11 destroyed on an Army base came from the hands of a Muslim. Already we are hearing stern admonitions to not make a big deal of this fact. The religion is supposedly an incredible coincidence. Possibly, but we do have a right to consider the connection, especially in lieu of how many other sniper style killing sprees happened in our own country from Muslims these last few years since 9/11. Do not allow anyone to paint you as a bigot just for raising an eyebrow. I, myself, will be very upfront. The moment I heard about the killing, I wondered if the man was a Muslim.  It was the first thought that came to my mind. Make no mistake:  I will not apologize for wondering about the rest.

A Horrible Trajedy, But Not The Only Important News Today

Rarely do I get a chance to blog so quickly after breaking news: There has been a shooting at Ft. Hood, Texas. 12 people are already dead with another 3 wounded. We do not yet know much about the identity of the shooter, except that he too, is a solder (or at least was in a soldier's uniform) and he has already been taken out by authorities.

My heart goes out to the families of the victims, but I do find myself suspecting that this will be the only news story we see for the rest of the evening by our "24 hour" news networks. This concerns me because it will eclipse another major news story. Undoubtedly, you heard about the many conservative protesters descending upon Washington today in an attempt to get the attention of an out of control congress about to push through a health care bill that few Americans want. OK, normally that story (which has been going on all summer) can wait in the wake of more critical news, but are you aware that Nancy Pelosi already had 12 of these protesters arrested on the charge of being on private property?  Probably not. Neither are you likely to hear much more about it today.

Nothing is sadder or more senseless then the death of innocents. But the media's fascination with the morbid subsequent decision to trump all other reports makes me sick to my stomach.

2012 Was Evidently Filmed in 1984.

The new movie, 2012 is about the potential destruction of the Earth due to a cracking of the surface. For shock value and special effects purposes, many religious shrines are seen destroyed, including; the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Christ the Redeemer Statue. But one religion's icons are conspicuously omitted. I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count! That's right, Islam! Coincidence? Not at all. In fact, we even have a confession on record from director, Roland Emmerich. Originally, he planned on destroying the Kaaba, (a cubical building in Mecca and most sacred of Muslim sites) but his friend and fellow screen writer, Harold Kloser persuaded him otherwise. Here is the quote, courtesy of of Sci Fi Wire and Cinematical.com:

"Well I wanted to do that...but my Co-Writer, Harold, said I will have a fatwa on my head because of a movie and he was right. We have to all...in the Western world...think about this. You can...actually let...Christian symbols fall apart but if you would do this with an Arab symbol, you would have...a fatwa and that sounds a little like what the state of the world is. So it's just something that I kind of didn't think was an important element anyway in the film, so I kind of left it out."

Look, I will never blame a director or anyone else for not wanting to put his life in danger. My only frustration is that even when such obvious words of justified fear are spoken, people continue with that stubborn but ludicrous notion about  Islam being a religion of peace. Either that, or the deeds of Islam are watered down with moral equivalency comparisons to Christianity. Good ol' Rosie O'Donnell's voice still lingers, "Listen, Militant Christianity is just as dangerous as Militant Islam."

No it isn't Rosie. If it were, people wouldn't be afraid to destroy the Sistine Chapel in a movie but quake at the thought of demolishing a Muslim shrine, even for fictitious purposes.

To V Or Not To V

There is a lot of chatter this week about the new ABC series, V, a science fiction about reptilian aliens who hide their true forms and purposes, disguise themselves as human beings, and travel to our planet in space ships. These "friendly" visitors immediately hold press conferences and announce that they have arrived, mostly to assist the Earth. In fact, they even promise free health care! In exchange, they need some help themselves. All of this cloaks their true, sinister motives, to take over our planet, steal our resources, and actually eat the human beings. In no time at all, the country becomes mesmerized by them. Those who do not march in step are ridiculed, persecuted, and called "racist." The resistance finds itself continually frustrated as members discover how brainwashed their family and friends have become. Scientists who express doubts and want to ask intelligent questions are told to get with the times in ways that do not sound unlike Al Gore's precious Global Warming statement, "The debate is over."

But Gore is not the comparison most people are making. Instead, this seems like an obvious allegory to the Obama administration and I suspect that writers at ABC are going to be commanded to change the tone of the scripts real fast. Indeed, somebody's head may already be rolling for allowing an Obama dissident to get over the fence in the first place. This is Hollywood, after all! My own prediction: Watch for future episodes to have similarities, not to Obama, but instead (You guessed it) George. W. Bush! We'll see something like the Patriot Act, etc.

And now, allow me to add a new wrinkle to the conversation and point out something few are saying. This is not an original program, but rather, a remake of the mini-series V that came out in the eighties and also inspired a year long, regularly scheduled program. That is not the unique observation, but it leads to my point: The writer, Kenneth Johnson, is the same. I keep hearing all this debate: Are the Obama Administration similarities deliberate or coincidental? Is the show trying to be political or simply telling a good old fashioned science fiction story about aliens wanting to take over the world? Well, I can answer that question for you right now.  The first series had a definite agenda, so if it is the same author, it is probably the same agenda. In the original V, the allegory was to Nazi Germany and the gradual, hypnotic effect Hitler had over the German people. I do not offer this as a guess or mere speculation. They were not very subtle about that message. There were even Jewish characters who had escaped Germany and pointed out the parallel, just in case the audience was too stupid to make the comparison themselves. Even the alien promise of medical and scientific provision was similar.

Here then, is my question: Why is it that a story intended to resemble the Nazis is immediately met with so much resistance by Obama supporters?

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.

They Claim They Don't Care

Republicans took the New Jersey and Virginia elections, but what is the reaction from our current administration and other Democrats in power? Well, frankly,  they claim they don't care.

Along those same lines:

-Tea Parties were held all over the country to protest higher taxes, but they claim they don't care.
-People showed up in uncountable herds to protest the new health care bill at town hall meetings this Summer, but they claim they don't care.
-Over one million marched on Washington on Sept 12, 2009, but they claim they don't care and they try to skew the numbers by insisting it was more like sixty-thousand or so.
-Another crowd will be in Washington this week to look their representatives in the eye and warn them not to vote for the two-thousand page health care bill. My prediction: Our faithful leaders will claim they don't care.

Why care when you can marginalize an entire populace with lies such as: "Oh, they are only rich, white, racist males who can't handle having a black president." or "If not for Fox News engineering this thing from the beginning, none of them would have come out."  They ignore the fact that a good deal of Independents and Democrats are also protesting, many of them female, many of them African-American, many of them former Obama supporters, and few of them rich.

What could possibly explain such apathy? It's quite simple really. Our current administration, along with its Democratic congress, is so arrogant and so narcissistic that they believe they are a lot smarter than you. In fact, they are sure of it. Indeed, they are so much more intelligent, you aren't even worth having a conversation with. They know what is best for the country and they know what you truly need. You are simply too stupid to make decisions for yourself. Therefore, your firm, but compassionate, nanny state is going to make these decisions for you. Period! End of story!

A Glimmer of Hope

Yesterday's gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia were huge. It was a blow to the Obama campaign and a glimmer of hope for Republicans. New Jersey has been donkey size thick as a Democratic state for the longest time. But under the skilled leadership of Governor Jon Corzine, their economy is falling apart like a family fortune held for ransom on the wrong number of a roulette table. In desperation, the people elected Republican Chris Cristie, despite Corzine's "civil" campaign that made fun of Christie's weight.

And the former red state of Virginia (having turned a bit purple after electing Obama) voted in Republican, Bob McDonnell to replace incumbent, R. Creigh Deeds by an extremely heavy margin. Republicans also won the race for Attorney-General and Lt. Governor.

If Blue-Dog Democrats in the House and Senate are paying attention, they might just view this as a crystal ball look into the 2010 election in which every seat in the House of Representatives will be up for grabs, along with one third of the Senate and two thirds of the state governorships. It might scare them into deciding not to go along with that lethal Trojan Horse called, "health care."

Today, Obama's spokesman, Robert Gibbs made it clear how uninterested and unconcerned President Obama is with yesterday's election. Hey, I believe him but I believe in the tooth fairy too, so don't go by me. Of course, Obama campaigned on behalf of Corzine three times. Hmm... Perhaps we are not going out on too much of a limb to imagine that he cares just a little. One also has to wonder why the Obama magic did not work, especially since three is the magic number in fairy tales. Could it be that those who gave Obama an A+ as a candidate are forcing themselves to look at his performance as an actual leader? Could it be that they wanted to elect a Messiah but instead are discovering that they elected a mere man, a man who, along with his fellow Democrats and misplaced Marxist ideologies is destroying our country?

If George W Bush was an idiot . . . .

If George W. Bush had been the first President to need a teleprompter installed to be able to get through a press conference, would you have laughed and said this is more proof of how inept he is on his own and is really controlled by smarter men behind the scenes?

If George W. Bush had spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to take Laura Bush to a play in NYC, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had reduced your retirement plan's holdings of GM stock by 90% and given the unions a majority stake in GM, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had made a joke at the expense of the Special Olympics, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given Gordon Brown a set of inexpensive and incorrectly formatted DVD's, when Gordon Brown had given him a thoughtful and historically significant gift, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had given the Queen of England an iPod containing videos of his speeches, would you have thought this embarrassingly narcissistic and tacky?

If George W. Bush had bowed to the King of Saudi Arabia, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had visited Austria and made reference to the non-existent "Austrian language," would you have brushed it off as a minor slip?

If George W. Bush had filled his cabinet and circle of advisers with people who cannot seem to keep current in their income taxes, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had been so Spanish illiterate as to refer to "Cinco de Cuatro" in front of the Mexican ambassador when it was the 5th of May (Cinco de Mayo), and continued to flub it when he tried again, would you have winced in embarrassment?

If George W. Bush had misspelled the word "advice" would you have hammered him for it for years like Dan Quayle and potatoe as proof of what a dunce he is?

If George W. Bush had burned 9,000 gallons of jet fuel to go plant a single tree on Earth Day, would you have concluded he's a hypocrite?

If George W. Bush's administration had okayed Air Force One flying low over millions of people followed by a jet fighter in downtown Manhattan causing widespread panic, would you have wondered whether they actually get what happened on 9-11?

If George W. Bush had failed to send relief aid to flood victims throughout the Midwest with more people killed or made homeless than in New Orleans, would you want it made into a major ongoing political issue with claims of racism and incompetence?

If George W. Bush had ordered the firing of the CEO of a major corporation, even though he had no constitutional authority to do so, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had proposed to double the national debt, which had taken more than two centuries to accumulate, in one year, would you have approved?

If George W. Bush had then proposed to double the debt again within 10 years, would you have approved?

So tell me again, what is it about Obama that makes him so brilliant and impressive? Can't think of anything? Don't worry. He's done all this in 5 months -- so we'll have three years and seven months to come up with an answer.
