President Obama's Clear Position On Libya

"America cannot stand by and watch evil happen to innocent people without taking action, but we must do it in such a way that it doesn't commit us to a war, so yes we plan to stop Muammar Gaddafi from killing more people, but no, we do not intend to remove him from power, however, (And this is very important) through pressure from the United Nations we might be able to kind of, sort of, remove him.

Remember, America cannot stop all evil in the world, but when we do see evil we must stop it, even if we don't stop it completely and even if we fall short of removing the dictator militarily although we hope he somehow gets removed anyway. So on the one hand, we are not really fighting a war, but on the other hand it does look like a war. It is my deepest, heart felt desire that it looks enough like a war to please Conservatives but not enough like a war to please Liberals."

NOTE: Remember when Obama was running for president? He asked a reporter to back off with questions until he finished his waffle. Worry no more about the waffle, Mr. President.

Other Religions Say The Same Thing

Central to the skeptic’s objection to Christianity is the audacity of Christians claiming not only that their own religion is true, but that all other religions are false.

Although I believe Christians should generally be gentle and humble when talking to unbelievers, I also feel it’s time for us to stop apologizing.  After all, we were instructed by Jesus to share the gospel with every person.  This doesn’t mean we want to impose on somebody elses’ religious freedom.  This doesn’t mean we don’t respect their right to disagree. This doesn’t mean we will force them to convert. It just means we would be hypocrites if we said we followed Jesus and disobeyed what Jesus went out of His way to specifically command us to do. This is the teaching of the New Testament. I know. I know. You occasionally hear some minister or priest say it isn’t the teaching of the New Testament. They aren’t speaking the truth. They may call themselves clergymen but they don’t know the Bible from Marvel Comic books.

There’s a movement within Christianity inspired by anti-intellectual disasters like The Jesus Seminar where liberal clergymen, men like Marcus Borg, shamelessly admit that they don’t like the teaching that Jesus is the only way. Well, that’s fine. If you don’t like His teachings, don’t follow His teachings. Nobody’s making you. The choice is yours. But at least be honest. Don’t try to pretend that He didn’t say what He said, just because you don’t like it.

And that’s what The Jesus Seminar did for us. They decided that the controversial statements from Jesus were not actually spoken by Jesus. They had nothing to base this on, mind you. They had nothing to base it on other than the fact that they didn’t like His comments. Jesus said “I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me.”

That’s what He said, folks. And no mental gymnastics in the world can force those words to mean anything other than what they say.

And I have a flash for you:  Jesus isn’t the only one who said that. Almost every major religion claims it’s the only way to God.  What was the first commandment given to the Jews through Moses, the founder of Judaism, who claimed to have heard words directly from God on Mt. Sinai?  “You will have no other gods before me.”  One God. One religion.

Moses didn’t say “Ours is one of many beautiful paths. Buddha and Mohammad will show you other ways. Oh and Dagon, the god of the Philistines.  You should respect him too.”

That’s not what Moses taught. Moses taught that the worship of any God other than the God of Israel was Idol worship.

As for Islam, do I even need to repeat it? The Koran makes it abundantly clear that those who do not believe in Allah and those who do not believe Mohammad is Allah’s prophet will end up in hell. What then is the difference between a Christian and a Muslim? The Muslim will kill you if you don’t repent. The Christian won’t.

Does this mean all Muslims are violent?  Not at all.  I have met many peaceful Muslims. But it does mean that all Muslims who take the Jihad verses of their own scriptures seriously are violent. Some Muslims look at the Koran the way the Jesus Seminar looks at the Bible. That’s bad news for effective literary criticism but good news for a world that wants to be safer.Be that as it may: However Muslims choose to take the Koran, this is just exactly what the Koran teaches.

It’s time to acquit Christianity from its bad rap.

Christianity And The Academy Awards

Film critic Mark Bubien looks back at the Academy Awards presentation from a couple of weeks ago, commenting not only on the nominees and winners, but the awards presentation itself.

When Major Tragedies Spawn Minor Annoyances

The horrific earthquake and subsequent tsunami waves of Japan are bringing an untold suffering that many of us cannot even begin to imagine. Our hearts go out to the victims and families of the victims. We who have never been through such events have much to be grateful for.

Not that anyone will be completely spared from any aftermath at all. It won't be long before the lectures on Global Warming kick in even though Japan has been having earthquakes long before the pop phrase "Global Warming" was even invented. Doesn't matter. Any phenomenon having to do with water, land, or sky is now part of Global Warming. If your dog knocked a Slurpee out of your hand and it evaporated quickly (helped by Rover's rapturous licking) people would still blame Global Warming or its twin brother, Climate Change.

And just to show you that I'm a fair guy, equally as willing to critique those in my own camp, I dread to think how many Evangelical pulpits will share sermons about the earthquakes predicted for the end times and the Second Coming of Christ this Sunday. If ever there were a week to skip church and catch up on some yard work, this might be the one.

When Senators Act Like Spoiled Brats

Wisconsin Governor, Scott Walker has offered to compromise his position regarding the unions if the Democratic senators who jumped ship and fled to Illinois would only come back.

I believe it is a mistake to offer such a deal. Whatever side of the fence you are on here, be ye liberal or conservative, be ye pro union or anti union, I think we should all agree that irresponsible senators who ditch their jobs deserve no special arrangements. Giving in now would open Pandora's Box and begin the most dangerous of precedents.

The reason we have a Republican majority in the Wisconsin State Senate is that a majority of citizens put them there. Whenever Democrats hold the majority, they smugly remind us that "the American people have spoken." Oh, but when they are in the minority we hear a whole different symphony.  They insist that the minority should have every bit as much power and clout as the majority party and that "the American people want bi-partisanship." I could write such drivel in my sleep.

Rest assured, this will not be the last time our faithful minority seat senators or congressman decide to take a field trip if that little Wisconsin hissy fit is catered to. It's like the mother who gives in to temper tantrums instead of using her thick hard cover psychology book to spank little Johnny on the behind.

Regarding Charlie Sheen

I guess this blog will serve as a kind of sequel to my Tiger Woods commentary from a while back.

What do I have to say about Charlie Sheen?  Nothing. Absolutely nothing. His life and his lifestyle are none of my business and they do not suddenly become my business simply because the man is a celebrity. I will go out on a limb here and suggest that with riots in the Middle East and protests almost turning into riots in our own Mid West, there may just be one or two subjects a little more important and newsworthy than good ol' Charlie Sheen.
