A Czar By Any Other Name Might as Well Be Boris or Natasha

Time for Obama to do another song and dance. Either he's going to have to convince us that he knew absolutely nothing about the background of his latest "Green Czar," Van Jones, or he's going to have to explain how he could have selected a man with such a lethal peddegree. Who knows? The denial might just fly. After all, it worked with Rev. Wright. Supposedly, in the twenty years Obama attended his church, he never heard one racist or anti-American statement. Obama said that with a straight face and people still voted for him. Obama also assured us that he barely knew self confessed, unashamed, terrorist, Bill Ayers. People let that slide too, even though the kick off event to Obama's political career was launched in Ayer's living room.  See how it comes together? Obama probably figures that anyone stupid enough to vote for him is just as brain-challenged in the present time.

And so, yes, it could actually work again. "We didn't know. We didn't know the man was a proud, professing Communist who promises to use the environment as a tool to redistribute wealth, who says it's impossible to discuss climate change without discussing racism, who accuses white people of deliberately poisoning blacks, and who signed a petition to investigate President Bush for causing 9/11.  We didn't know."

They didn't know. The president had resources like the FBI at his disposal to do a background check and he couldn't even come up with something that a simple Google search would provide. Or maybe he never heard of YouTube, where and abundance of speeches from this fine gentlemen have recently surfaced.  Yeah, sure. He didn't know. I believe him, but I believe in the Tooth Fairy too, so don't go by me.

Or Obama could pull that other rabbit out of his hat. "Van Jones has changed. It was in the distant past that he called himself a Communist. He's reformed." Actually, this response has been floated already but without much success so they will either try it again or bag the tactic completely. For the record, Jone's Communist speech was a while ago, all the way back in March of 2009!  Do you remember what you had for breakfast every day last March?  No?  Well, OK then, let's stop quibbling about ancient history.

Another possible course of action: "Oh, yeah, sure, Jones said all those things, but you are taking him out of context. When he said we might have been responsible for 9/11, he didn't mean to suggest that we might have been responsible. He only meant to say that we might have been responsible. See?  You have to understand the context."

Of course, there is one other interpretation to all of this, so obvious, so simplistic and so outrageous, most people never think of it: Maybe a man smart enough to graduate Harvard and smart enough to pull off a successful presidential campaign, is also smart enough to properly vet a new adviser. Maybe Obama knows everything about this man and wants him on his team for exactly those reasons. Truth be told, many of his other czars are every bit as scary if not scarier. Maybe he was sure he'd get away with this since he has gotten away with everything else. Maybe he figured the worse case scenario would be that only the Right-Wing would notice what he's trying to do and he could quickly shut them up by saying they only object to him because he's black.

I am grateful for all that is now out in the open and comforted that Obama is getting such bad press (finally) over this venomous appointment. I believe we will see Van Jone's resignation in only a matter of days, if not sooner.  But I'll be honest with you. I'm still gravely concerned. I'll give you my reasons:

1) For quite some time, our mainstream media refused to touch this story. It simply did not fit in with their role as Obama's Water Boy. With few exceptions, Glen Beck has been carrying the torch almost entirely on his own, even though, (as I said) the info is easily and readily available to anyone with even the most elementary internet skills. True, many Conservative Talk Show hosts have no love lost on Obama, but we are mostly hearing about health care type issues from them, and valid as those concerns are, they are not even in the same stratosphere as the stuff Glen Beck has been willing to touch despite threats to his family. True, some bloggers and local radio show hosts like me have passed on Beck's info along with information uncovered from our own research, but we are small potatoes, unlikely to come under as much fire, and Beck deserves credit for virtually fighting a one man battle. My admiration for the man is matched only by my utter disdain for today's mainstream news: They are run by a bunch of cowardly curds!  And that is just about the nicest thing I can say.

2) Even though the mainstream media is now (only after kicking and screaming) on board, I fear that all those other deadly czars will be lost in the sea of discussion over Jones. For this reason, I dedicate a small series of blogs, to act as a simple concise list of other recent Obama czar appointees and their beliefs.

I guarantee, you will find it all quite chilling

Hey Kids! How Would You Like To Be Servants?

The voices of angry and concerned parents have caused the Obama administration to back peddle and abandon at least one of the follow up projects associated with the president's planned speech to public school children.

Most people have no problem with a president giving some generic, inspirational lecture, void of politics: "Hey, kids!  Study hard! Stay in school!"  That kind of drivel would have been fine and because of all the bad press, that is now probably all it will be. But one can only wonder what the little nippers might have heard without the paternal hurricane.  We do know that essays were going to be recommended where students could write about how to best serve the president. In fact, this same week, Courtney Cox and other Hollywood celebrities have put forth an ad encouraging kids to make a special pledge of allegiance. Hold on to your seat. You are not dreaming. Hollywood did not suddenly revert back toward any kind of patriotic love for our country. No, this was not a pledge to our flag, but rather A PLEDGE TO OUR PRESIDENT! And again, the word servant was used, "I pledge myself to be a servant to my president."

Excuse me, but the United States was not set up so that we could serve our president. It is the president's job to serve us. Perhaps this subtle reminder is needed in an age where our latest Chief Executive gets treated like Henry the 8th.

Encouraging education always sounds so good. But I must say: I am this close to not wanting kids to stay in school and study hard. I guess, for me, it depends on what they are studying and what they are being taught (indoctrinated) with.

A Dictator's Short Cut

Last week, I wrote a blog about how things are even worse than I thought they were. Well, sorry to be such a bearer of bad tidings, but you might as well know the truth. Happy or sad, I feel ethically bound to report. After all, ignorance is not bliss. In any event, if you are tired of depressing blogs, don't worry. I may not be allowed to write them much longer. Things are even worse than I said they were last week when I told you they were worse than I said they were. (Or something like that.)

Senator Jay Rockefeller is drafting a bill that would give the president special powers in case of an emergency. The powers would extend over the "private sector networks," code for cyberspace. This means no less than the following: The content of all blogs and websites could be placed under the control of President Obama.

I know this is the president who said he was against the Fairness Doctrine. But he is also the president who just appointed Mark Lloyd as his "Diversity Officer" in the FCC. Mr. Lloyd doesn't seem to have much use for free speech. In his own words:

"The purpose of free speech is warped to protect global corporations and block rules that would protect democratic governance."

Inasmuch as our current administration seems to see "Right-Wing organizations" and Global Warming as bigger threats than Islamo- Terrorism, one can only wonder what President Obama might consider an emergency. Since any emergency would give him a chance to be God, I'm guessing that such a Red Alert condition will be defined fairly loosely.

Can you just imagine if George Bush had tried such a thing? Where are our news networks right now?  When the Patriot Act gave the government access to private E Mails (something I protested) our media went ballistic!

America, wake up before the only available news is Chris Matthew's update on the chill up his leg brought about by the oratory skills of President Obama or the latest count in how many flies Obama managed to slay with one stroke of the hand.

Words and Phrases That Should Be Permanently Retired: Part One

Words can be very powerful and the twisted definition of a word can be dangerous. Here is a list of words and phrases that I would like to see permanently retired from our discussions.

1) "I find this offensive."

Today's generation gets offended far too easily. Some would be offended if a leaf fell from a tree. Frankly, I do not care if words offend. I care more about whether words are true. Our forefathers knew that free speech would often offend. Why else would they need to be protected by our constitution? Certainly, there is no reason to purposely offend people as an end in itself. We should never go out of our way to be rude, neither should we act self-righteous or inappropriately judgmental as Christians. But when somebody is offended simply by a manger scene, or a cross around the neck, or an opposing political viewpoint, then we must face the fact that we live in very thin skinned times and stop worrying so much about what offends.

2) Tolerance

"You sound intolerant!" people cry, in an effort to quickly shut up their opponent and end all discussion. But the truth is, nobody, and I mean nobody tolerates everything. Do you tolerate slavery? Do you tolerate racism? Do you tolerate rape? Do you tolerate murder?  OK, then each topic should be discussed on its own moral merits. When homosexuality comes up (the true subject hiding behind the word "tolerance")  the question should not be whether or not we tolerate the practice but why we do or not not tolerate the practice.

Just What We Need: Another Kiss and Tell Book

Former Homeland Security Adviser, Tom Ridge has written a book which accuses the Bush administration of raising the terror alert level for political purposes. He has since distanced himself from the comment, trying to tell us that he didn't really say what he said. Well, he kind of, sort of said it, but not really. You'd think people would learn that once their words are actually written in books, they are fairly hard to back away from. But such evasiveness is generally based, not on the truth, but on how popular the original statement was, and in this case, (similar to the Scott McClellen saga) it blew up in Ridge's face.

For myself, I am sick and tired of these classless, cowardly kiss and tell books. If you have ethical problems with the administration you are working with, something of Earth shattering importance that we all desperately need to know, then bring it up at the time. We don't want to hear about it at Barnes and Noble.

Does the Failure of Obama Really Equal the Failure of America Or Is This Just More of That Brilliant Spin?

Congresswoman, Diane Watson did something difficult and unpredictable at a town hall meeting yesterday: She insulted Rush Limbaugh.  Wow! The utter courage one must summon to make a comment like that, not to mention the independent thought!

Miss Watson was actually looking back on a statement Limbaugh made quite some time ago about not wanting Obama to succeed. Her point was that if our President fails, our country fails. I guess that means she also wanted the policies of George Bush to succeed, because, after all, if Bush failed, then that would mean America also...Well, never mind.

Allow me to ask a painful question, something so obvious, yet so unsettling, most people are simply afraid to ask it: Supposing Obama himself wants America to fail?

I'm just asking and it's a fair question. Don't misunderstand me. I'm sure in Obama's mind, he wants America to succeed. But which America? That is the important sub-question. After all, Obama enthusiastically admitted that he wanted to transform America during his campaign. Since then, his domestic policies seem to be helping our economy the way a Jihadist helps a headache: "Hmm...Why don't we just cut your head off?  Yeah, we'll just cut it clean off. Then you won't have a headache anymore."

Make no mistake: Whether or not I want Obama to succeed or fail depends upon the policies themselves. If he is trying to morph us into a Socialist society that rises out of the ashes of Capitalism, then I hope he fails. And when he travels the world apologizing for America, that makes me wonder how much he loves America, as opposed to loving what he and his Leftist buddies want America to become.

Again, I'm just throwing this out for discussion.  But if you think these questions are off base, look at the remainder of Diane Watson's speech where she praised the Marxist, cutthroat, murdering thief, Fidel Castro.

In her own words:  "You can think whatever you want about Fidel Castro, but he was one of the brightest leaders I have ever met."

She also encouraged Americans to visit Cuba and see for themselves the wonderful health care Castro brought about. For some reason, she did not encourage Americans to visit Miami, Florida and talk to the millions of Cubans who fled Castro.

But honeycomb compliments also come from the other direction. Only last week, Castro, himself, praised President Obama:

"President Obama is trying to make positive changes in the United States, but is being fought at every turn by Right-Wingers who hate him because he is black."

If that statement sounds familiar, it's only because so many of our Democratic politicians have uttered virtually identical comments, almost word for word. In fact, Watson said it herself in that same town hall speech.

"And remember, they are spreading fear and they are trying to see that the first president that looks like me fails."

"Looks like me," of course, refers to the fact that she is African-American. Boy, did Watson hit a home run with this town hall gathering or what? Have you seriously contemplated this? An elected representative telling us that we cannot possibly disagree with the direction of her party unless we are racists. Does she really feel this way?  Is she that stupid or is she instead hoping you are that stupid?  In either case, such a thoughtless, irresponsible, infantile comment only proves that the woman and so many others in her party are walking disasters who have forfeited their right to be in Washington on our behalf. Come quickly 2010!

Conservatives get chewed out for even suggesting that a Marxist movement is alive and well within the Obama administration and the Democratic Congress. And yet, we have a Congresswoman praising Castro while Castro himself praises Obama. And despite this horror, we are not even allowed to ask if our country is going a Marxist direction?  Even the question itself is unfair? Give me a break!

To speak the obvious once again, if Obama is taking us where I think he is taking us, an America that would depress Thomas Jefferson but put a smile on the face of Fidel Castro, an America where dissent with Republicans is called patriotic while dissent with Democrats is called racist, no, I do not want him to succeed.

For previous pieces in this series, see:

Words And Phrases That Should Be Peranently Retired: Part One

Words And Phrases That Should Be Peranently Retired: Part Two

Words And Phrases That Should Be Peranently Retired: Part Three

And finally, two more words and phrases to retire:

5) Bi-Partisanship

Being partisan, simply means that you are partial to a certain point of view or political party that you believe in. How else would you have it?  Should we, instead, show loyalty to the party whose values we disagree with? Oh certainly, there are some issues important enough for Democrats and Republicans to both work on. But such would  assume honest agreement on a matter that puts the good of the country before the good of the party.

Unfortunately, today's definition of "bi-partisanship" is that Republicans should do things the way Democrats want them done. Not getting behind President Obama is being partisan, ununified, or unpatriotic (to name a couple of other words that should probably be retired.) Of course, when Bush was in office, Democrats lectured us about how American it is to offer healthy dissent. Speaking of the word American...Let us move on to Number 6.

6) The American People

I must admit, my emotion toward this phrase is very personal and I may be alone in despising it, but honestly, the constant usage of these three words makes me want to throw up. They sound phony and disingenuous whether they come from the lips of Democrats or Republicans. "I am taking this stand because this is what the American people want to see."

First of all, most politicians do not work for the American people. They work for their own political parties and special interest groups. For another thing, our town hall meetings are demonstrating that far too many of our trusted leaders don't have a clue what the American people really want and are not at all attuned to the heartthrob of the populace.

And so, I offered a couple of objective reasons, but I should also confess that I am just privately sick and tired of the phrase. I'll settle for anything else: "Americans" or "American citizens" or even just "citizens."  How about "friends, Romans, countrymen?" But let us retire once and for all this patronizing phrase called, the American people.

4) Compassion

So, you think you are a compassionate person?  Well, unless you want to give amnesty and free health care to illegal aliens, you are mistaken. Unless you want to forbid the death penalty to terrorists and other murderers, how dare you call yourself compassionate? Where do you get the nerve? Oh yes, compassion toward unborn babies (or even born ones for that matter, should you protest Obama's voting approval of infanticide in the Illinois Infant Protection Act) disqualifies you as a candidate for compassion.

Words And Phrases That Should Be Peranently Retired: Part Two

For Part One of this blog, see:

Words and Phrases That Should Be Permanently Retired: Part One

In my last blog, we retired the phrase, "I find this offensive," and the word "tolerance."

3) Hate

The slightest tone of concern, the sheer hint of warning, or the mere audacity to disagree with anything Politically Correct, gets quickly labeled as, "hate."  Not long ago, somebody wrote me and claimed that I had too much hate in my blog because I was so critical of Obama. Of course, this same person had been sending me conspiracy theories about George Bush for over a year before then.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves and should back up for a moment. Hate is not necessarily a bad word. Some things in life are worth hating. I hate evil, for instance, and I hate evil without apology. The problem here (similar to the misuse of the word "tolerance" is that we have disagreements about who is evil or what is evil.

Admittedly, a more negative understanding of the word hate is the more prevalent one today, namely an extreme, bitter emotion that often wants to see harm done to others, even innocents.

Unfortunately, today's culture has ripped all the power off of this word. Twenty years ago, could you have imagined the day would come when those who believe marriage should be between a man and a woman would be viewed as hateful or that those who want to protect the life of an unborn baby would be known as vile meanies?

No, we have not been good stewards of this word and therefore, it should be retired.
