Prediction Time: And I Guarantee, It Will Happen Exactly Like This.

People have been asking me lately if I believe Obama will get re-elected. After all, he's losing popularity and his policies make our poor disillusioned citizens want to run to the hills and scream.

My answer depends upon how long freedom of speech remains truly free. Between Hate Speech laws and Fairness Doctrines regulating Talk Radio, Obama may just succeed in shutting down all opposition. He is a good speech maker and without anyone around to expose his lies, the man can get away with anything.

However, public reaction is overflowing right now beyond the bounds of media. The current status of Democrat town hall meetings has proven as much. With all that's going on, it will be difficult to quiet free speech. At the very least, I think more than a year is needed to do so. For this reason, I can at least make a prediction about the 2010 election. No, that does not affect Obama specifically, but if he looses his congress, he looses his domestic power.

With such qualifications in mind, I believe that the Republicans will take back both the House and the Senate in 2010. I believe the Democrats are going to be tossed out so fast, they will never know what hit them. And then, the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reed, and Barbara Boxer will explain that they did not really lose the election. They will cry, "Election Fraud." They will claim that African-Americans and others were intimidated and not allowed out to the polls.  It will happen just exactly this way.  I do not stand by these words because of any special insight. I say this because our Democratic Party has become just that predictable.

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.

Can God Really Do Anything?

"Can God really do anything?  If so, can He create a rock so huge that not even He can not push it?"

This is not an original question. Indeed, the question may be as old as God Himself.  Still, some people think that when they pose the question, you are going to fall out of your chair because you have never heard it before. They believe they are quite clever just for asking it.  I do not mean to generalize all skeptics. Certainly, others are being sincere when they pose the question.

My answer is going to surprise you. No, God cannot do anything.  There, I said it. Christians may be as startled as anyone else by such a response.

It's true that the Bible rejoices in God's marvelous abilities which are so far beyond ours that the ancient Hebrews, in their hyperbole, often spoke of God's omnipotence. However, when the Bible tells us that God can do anything, it means God can do anything that's possible to do. That even includes miracles. They may be beyond our limited understanding, but God knows things about science that we have not yet attained.  So, yes, God does miracles, because it is possible to do miracles. But some things are impossible, even for God. Don't forget, this same Bible goes out of its way to teach that God can never be evil. In fact, He cannot even be tempted by evil (James 1:13). Doesn't this make sense?  Can God be one-hundred percent good and one-hundred percent evil at the same time? No, He cannot. That a good God cannot be an evil God is rather obvious, but even if we wanted to enter this discussion with moral neutrality, such a phenomenon could never exist according to logic. How can any being be one-hundred percent of one thing and one-hundred percent of something else at the same time? It's like saying the color of blood is one-hundred percent red and one hundred percent green (paying homage to Vulcans).

The same holds true for the rock illustration.  It posits a God who can do anything and then, in His omnipotence, arranges matters so that He cannot do anything. C.S. Lewis gave the best answer I have ever heard for this kind of question: "Nonsense is nonsense, even when we are talking about God."

This is Bob Siegel, (with a little help from C.S. Lewis) making the obvious, obvious.

NOTE: Jesus' temptation does not contradict my essay above. Although God by identity, Jesus had emptied Himself of God's form and power. In short, Jesus became a real man with all the limitations of a man, including, the ability to be tempted. He did not sin, but He was tempted. God, in His true form, cannot be tempted.

Does God Answer Prayer?

On this week's Bob Siegel Show: Does God Answer Prayer?  He does and sometimes in the most subtle ways.

Other topics:

Theology:

-Why did God not do a better job of authenticating the identity of Jesus?
-Why did God not predict the New Covenant as part of the law of Moses?

Current Events:

-A 2007 audio clip proving that Obama wants to move us to a single payer health care system, despite what he says
-Obama now has a "Rat Line" so that people can report any citizen who dissents.
-Obama claims that the economy has improved. Does this mean that if it gets bad again he can still blame George Bush?
-A chilling story: Joe Legal and Joe Illegal

Just Because It's Full of Rats, That Doesn't Automatically Make It a Rat Line!

President Obama loves us Americans. And he is so sad when we are led astray. That's why he is asking you to report on any of your friends who have heard "disinformation" about his health care plan. Just forward such E Mails to our administration and perhaps the misled pilgrim can be straightened out. This will also help our government to keep all dissenting opinion on file.

Now I want you to know that contrary to what it may sound like, this is NOT a "Rat Line."
How do we know it's not a Rat Line?  Obama doesn't call it a Rat Line. That's how we know! So please do not confuse this latest call to unity for the tactics of Communist countries, dictators or other totalitarian regimes. Oh sure, it may resemble those countries in every conceivable way, but still, if you label it as such that will make you guilty of Hate Speech.

May I ask you again?  How do you like the change so far?

Now They Are Coming After You Too

First they tried to vilify Talk Radio. That didn't work. Then they tried to vilify Fox News. That didn't work. Then they tried to ridicule the Conservative Blogosphere.  That didn't work. Now, they are coming after any private citizen who opposes them.

Lately, Democratic Senators and Congressmen have been interupted and shouted down at town hall meetings by people who are waking up and attempting to avert the great train wreck ahead; a government with its tentacles in almost every corner of the private sector. Most specifically, this monster health care bill is being brought up alongside questions about why our trusted leaders are voting for a bill they have not even read.

The response is a series of accusations from the likes of Barbara Boxer, suggesting that such crowd anger is manufactured by Republican sharks and does not truly represent the real American people. The polls would indicate otherwise, Barbara dear. A USA Gallop Poll shows 50% of Americans oppose the President's health care plan, while 44% approve. As for the rallies, Democrats as well as Republicans are voicing their opposition. And just in case somebody feels like making this a race issue, African-Americans and Latinos along with whites are demanding that our government pay more attention to what the people truly want. But that doesn't click with the Democratic talking points. A recent Democrat sponsored ad reduces the entire phenomenon to a mob brought about by the "Extreme Right."  Extreme Right, incidentally, is anyone who objects to big government, wants our borders protected, or believes children should have both a father and a mother.  As people move farther and farther to the Left, those in the middle appear to be "Extreme Right."

And so, our Washington elite, instead of representing the people, are marginalizing the people. You are no longer allowed to raise your voice without being called "a mob."

Now look, to be fair, I don't believe in shouting people down. I hate it when that happens to Conservatives on college campuses and we owe the same respect to Democratic politicians.  On the other hand, our in house royalty never expressed much concern about unruly mobs before. They certainly didn't mind the intimidation of the Black Panthers at last year's polls. Neither did they speak about the right to be heard when a student tried to throw a pie in Ann Coulter's face. Maybe they were not bothered before because they couldn't imagine ever being the recipients. Besides, their term  "Right Wing Mob" is not reserved only for the rude. It is used even of people are are not interrupting and not shouting, people who are merely expressing themselves through Tea Parties that they organize, or a raised hand when they are listening to a senator speak.

It seems our current government needs a basic Civics 101 class. When people feel they are underrepresented, they call their Congressmen or challenge them in person at public meetings. What you call a mob, we used to call Democracy.

Incidentally. This blog was written by a registered Democrat.

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.

Maybe You'll Believe His Own Words

Last week, I posted a blog challenging Obama's promise that private health care would remain an option even after his new health care bill passes. I will not get into it again. The blog is linked below. Suffices to say for now, I demonstrated the impossibility of private insurance existing alongside government insurance.

In any event, you don't need to do the math anymore. All you need is to watch a 2007 interview with Obama that recently resurfaced. In this chilling discussion, he explains how he is in favor of the single payer system and that other ideas would only be a step toward making that happen.

So, now you have it in his own words. Will the latest radio wave of revelation make a difference to Obama supporters? Only time will tell, but it should make a difference to anyone who cares to approach this subject honestly.

Then Again...

PRESIDENT OBAMA, WHEN THE STOCK MARKET IS DOING POORLY: "The stock market is not an accurate indicator of how our economy is doing. Besides, the state of the economy is not my fault.  Don't forget, I inherited this mess from George W. Bush!"

PRESIDENT OBAMA, WHEN THE STOCK MARKET IS DOING WELL: "See? Our stimulus package is working."

OK...Fine. So let's put him on record now. He says the economy is doing well.  For argument's sake, I'll just assume he's right. What happens a month from now when the economy travels south as it undoubtedly will? Is he going to play the George Bush card again?  Think about it: The moment Obama claims credit for the state of the economy, he is admitting that he is now responsible for the economy. If things get bad again, how exactly will he be able to leap frog back to Bush? It's a tactic Obama will need to retire. People just won't buy it anymore. Then again, people did vote for this man in the first place, didn't they?. Never mind. I take it back. As long as Obama continues to blame Bush, his groupies will follow suit. As long as Obama continues to do anything, his groupies will follow suit.

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.

OK God, I Just Changed My Mind.

The first three times they called me for jury duty I got out of it. Not that jury duty wouldn't be interesting. Actually, I think I would enjoy the process and find it fascinating. My reason for excusing myself had to do with time considerations alone.

My fourth call to jury duty arrived in June and I figured I would try it this time. True, they might not take me, being that I'm both a minister and radio talk show host with an opinion about everything. Undoubtedly I would never survive the interview process but why not be more willing and flexible?  I prayed, "God, I will go down to the court and put this matter in your hands. If it's your will that I do jury duty, have them select me."

I told all my friends that I was at peace with the whole thing. "This is one of those rare times, when I think I will be happy either way. If I don't have to do jury duty, fine, because it would have been time consuming. On the other hand, if they pick me, I might consider it a stimulating experience."

First, I sat in the room with about one-hundred other people waiting for the orientation to begin. Eventually we were treated to a video about civic responsibility, laced with interviews by Americans who were proud to have done their patriotic duty. Not only that, but some of them had made lifetime friends by serving on a jury. They were so excited, one would have thought they'd come up with a cure for cancer.

After the video, we got an hour break for breakfast. I had an omelette from the cafeteria. Not bad. Breakfast would be one of the perks should I be called to serve.

When we returned to the jury lounge, they eventually called the names of the first panel to be interviewed. I was not on the list. Several hours went by, interrupted by an additional 15 minute break in which I bought myself and ice cream sandwich. Then they called the second panel. I was not on the list this time either. I tried reading some magazines. I tried watching one of the TV's that were on. But there was no denying a fast growing emotional truth: Bored out of my gourd!

Around noon, they read off another list of names. This time, I was on it. Our instructions?  We were to take a ninety minute lunch break and return at 1:30 to be interviewed.  I had lunch at Wendy's, returned home for a while, and then drove back to the courthouse. Afternoon parking was more difficult. There was nothing open in their garage so I parked on the street.

We waited another thirty minutes and they explained that the trial was delayed. It finally occurred to me that even if I was picked for jury duty, I would be going through this every day, waiting around for the judge to roll in when he darn well felt like it or experiencing some other obstacle to punctuality.

"God, I change my mind. I thought I could be happy either way but now I just want out. Please do not put me on a jury."

At 2:30, the intercom came on again. It was explained that one of the witnesses never showed up. They were going to scrap today's trial and begin again tomorrow with an all new jury. We were excused and would not be obligated to jury duty for another year, if at all. I kid you not: The announcement which excused us came within five minutes of my prayer.

Praise be to God in the heaven!
For He hears the prayer of his desperate servant and answers from on high!

So ends Bob's adventures with jury duty. I still say it was a great omelette.  Not a bad ice cream sandwich either. As for Wendy's, I can still go there any time I want.

Man oh man, there's one whole day of my life I'll never have back again.

How Do We Know When He's Lying? His Lips Are Moving. Or, Just Use Some Common Sense.

President Obama insists that his health care policy would not destroy the private market and turn us toward a single payer system. "If You like your own insurance company you may keep it, " he insists with the same charisma that mesmerized well intentioned suckers into voting him into office.  When Obama makes such a comment he is lying through his teeth.

Perhaps some would prefer that I be more generous and instead suggest that Obama is sincerely misguided. Maybe he does not intend to deliberately fabricate the truth. After all, he admitted in a press conference that he had not actually read the bill. Neither has Congress. Well, that's a marvel in its own rite and one must wonder why they are in such a hurry to pass a bill that nobody has read. Could it be because they see the reaction of people when details about this monstrosity leak forth their sticky trap style substance like the La Brea Tar Pits?  Many decent Americans detest a country that would deny certain procedures to senior citizens all the while paying for abortions. (This is not a conspiracy theory. This is what the bill actually includes!)

Say what you want about Obama, the man is not stupid. I wish I could say the same for those who keep defending him. I guess we all do stupid things from time to time in our lives but those who continue to follow this Pied Piper must sooner or later take responsibility for what their hero is doing to the country. Here it is:  Obama is too smart to believe his own words and talented enough to say them with a straight face.

So...We can continue with our own private insurance, eh?  How exactly? First the government offers cheaper insurance. Even if some want to pay more for their own, many will abandon their own and go for the cheaper one. You know that. I mean, this isn't rocket science. What happens to private health care after they begin to lose business to the government? That's right, their premiums go up even more. This finishes off those who initially wanted to hold on.  Now you are paying for your own expensive health care and everyone else's at the same time! Who is going to continue paying for two policies when they can cancel at least one of them? Nothing is free, Johnny. Where exactly did you think Obama was going to get money for national health care? From your tax dollars, that's where! Even those who do not want health care will be charged a penalty fee!  Knowing that they will pay for health care whether they want it or not, people will give in and decide to get some and I just can't imagine them turning to the expensive stuff when the government insurance (horrible as the service may be) will at least be cheaper and they never really wanted any in the first place. Add in the fact that businesses will be forced by law to insure all employees or pay their own stiff stipend.  Hmm, when forced to insure everybody, I wonder which insurance they will pick, the expensive or the inexpensive. The fact that many companies will simply go out of business is another chilling effect of national health care, but that's a subject for a different day.

Are you catching on?  Nobody is going to pay for their own insurance and everybody else's.  The private providers simply can not stay in business. Obama is wise enough to know this. It's time his supporters wised up as well.

This is Bob Siegel, making the obvious, obvious.

Why Did God Not Shout More Clearly?

" In John 8:58, Jesus identifies Himself as God by using the very name of God, I AM. The Jewish leaders seemed to understand just exactly what he was saying. After all, they picked up stones to execute him, and rightly so. For a Jew to claim to be God, was the highest form of blasphemy, (unless, by chance, he was telling the truth.)  But the Jews had no way to discern whether or not Jesus was telling the truth. Why did God not authenticate the deity of Jesus right then and there?  Why hold the Jews responsible for sincere ignorance?"

How God deals with sincere ignorance is a topic for another article. I do believe He takes ignorance into account, for what it's worth.  As for the primary question, the answer is quite simple: God did establish Jesus. No, He did not speak to the Jews right out of the sky at that particular moment, but He had used exactly that very theophany before.

When Jesus was baptized, God spoke out of the sky saying, "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." Today, that might seem to mean little more than God saying, Jesus, like all of us, is one of His children. But in the days of ancient Israel, the term, "Son of God " meant something quite different. The title was a very specific claim to deity. (See article linked below.)

Throughout the remainder of Jesus' ministry, He performed miracles, signs and wonders. He healed the blind, the deaf, and the mute. He also multiplied fish, cast out demons, walked on water, and calmed a storm.

During His crucifixion, the sky turned dark, and many Old Testament saints resurrected, making numerous appearances to the Jews. The priests of the temple witnessed the curtain to the Holy of Holies being supernaturally torn in two. This indicated that the Old Covenant was over and that access to God was now granted. No longer would people need the High Priest alone to seek atonement for their sins.

On the following Sunday morning, there was an earthquake and the visitation of an angel to Roman guards who reported the incident. This same angel rolled the stone away from the sepulchre where Jesus' body had been buried. Finally, the resurrected Jesus Himself appeared to 500 people.

I would say that God did a fairly good job of authenticating Jesus.

"But all these incidents are in the Bible. What if we do not accept the Bible?"

Now you are altering the premise of your question. A moment ago, you were accepting the Bible when you pointed out that Jesus claimed to be God in front of the Jews without immediate authentication. If you are going to pose a question from within the parameters of the Bible, then we must answer within these same boundaries.  I.E. your objection was: According to the Bible, it does not look as if God proved the claims of Jesus Christ. My answer simply follows the rules of your own question: Actually, according to the Bible, God did demonstrate the credentials of Jesus.

Now, having said that, there are other ancient documents which authenticate these same events, (Josephus, Tacitus, Acts of Pilate, Talmud) but for today, we are looking at the Biblical narrative.

CNN, That Objective, Unbiased News Network

Sonia Sotomayor passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a 13-6 vote.

Here is how CNN ran the headline across our television screens:

6 Republican Senators Vote Against First Latino Woman Supreme Court Nominee

Don't they know the difference between a news headline and an editorial?

For the record, one Republican on the committee (much to my disappointment) voted in favor of Sotomayor, Senator Lindsey Graham. The others were concerned about her controversial comments, not the least of which is a view that the constitution is a "living breathing document" and should emulate international law.

But that's not how the liberals spin this stuff. In their minds, those evil, bigoted Republicans cannot handle a Latino woman on the Supreme Court. This thoughtless, irresponsible statement is banking on the hope that most people are too infantile to see the truth. Nomination to our highest court in the land couldn't possibly be characterized with legitimate legal concerns. Instead, all the complexities are reduced to stone clubs. There is no right or wrong; only white or Latino, only male or female.

Incidentally, where was our liberal media when DEMOCRATS objected to the REPUBLICAN appointment of Alberto Gonzales?

A word to the wise for CNN: It's a free country so you just go ahead and report the news any way you like. Only one thing:  From now on, you really should pipe down about the "bias of Fox News."  Not every American is as stupid as you think.

The Facts About Our Latest Addition To "Homeland Security"

NOTE: Today's article will make more sense if you first read the prologue I wrote yesterday:

Let's Just See What A Little Research Does

OK, Here is what I discovered:

1) The two new appointees to Homeland Security are Arif Alikhan, as Assistant Secretary For Policy Development, and Kareem Shora for Homeland Security Advisory Council.

2) Alikhan is a devout Sunni Muslim, affiliated with MPAC (Muslim Public Affairs Council). This organization describes itself as "a public service agency working for civil rights of American Muslims, for the integration of Islam into American pluralism, and for a positive, constructive relationship between American Muslims and their representatives." MPAC claims a desire to co-exist peacefully with Christians and Jews. However, interested parties may help themselves to a few facts:

a) MPAC's Senior Advisor, Maher Hathout, has close ties to the terrorist organization, Muslim Brotherhood, and accepts the most violent faction of Islam called Wahhabism. Not only does Wahhabism, openly, unabashedly practice Jihad, this movement was influenced by real, honest to goodness NAZIS during the days of World War Two!

b) After 9/11, when the Palestinians began the Second Intifada, MPAC broke off its ties to the Jewish community and made public statements condemning Israel for retaliating against the violence. Such violence, you will recall, included terrorists blowing up civilian buses and killing innocent women and children.

c) MPAC holds Israel one hundred percent responsible for all Middle East violence.

d) MPAC openly opposed Bush's military campaigns in Afghanistan and Iraq.

e) In 1999 MPAC supported Hezbollah's 1983 bombing of the American military barracks in Lebanon.

I could continue with more but I need some time to talk about the other appointee. Besides, my purpose this morning is to write a blog, not a phone book.

3) In a CNN interview, Kareem Shora urged the United States to stop shipping arms to Israel. This statement is tame compared to the organization he represents. Shora was the head of ADC (American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee).  Here is some dope on ADC:

a) They have a warm association with Anti-Israeli professor, Rashid Khalidi. But then, so does Obama, so no big surprises here.

b) ADC's public policy is anti-Israel.

c) ADC has openly opposed many anti- terrorist measures in the United States and has lobbied against the Patriot Act.

d) In 1994, then President of ADC, Hasmzi Moghrabi, responded to Hamas suicide bombings by saying, "I will not call Hamas a terrorist organization."

e) In 2000, the new ADC President, Hussein Abish, called Hezbollah "a disciplined and responsible liberation force."

What fine additions these gentlemen make to our Department of Homeland Security. I want to say something clever here but somebody beat me to the punch years ago: The fox is watching the hen house.

May I ask again?  How do you like the change so far?

Let's Just See What A Little Research Does

Today's is a different kind of blog, a grand experiment, as a matter of fact. Not that the subject matter won't be familiar. It's the writing style which will be unique.

You see, President Obama recently appointed two Muslims to Homeland Security. Inasmuch as Militant Islam is the enemy, do I even need to make a comment here? Stop, right there. Before you lecture me on how many Muslims are peaceful, how I should resist the temptation to stereotype, and how I should not assume that these are terrorist Muslims, let me explain the experiment.

Unlike my other blogs, I have not yet done any research into the lives of these two individuals. In fact, I do not even know their names. Instead, I am including you in on my investigative process. I will look into the details of the appointees and get back to you with tomorrow's blog. No, I do not expect them to have terrorist ties (at least, not direct terrorist ties). Even Obama couldn't be that stupid. But here is what I am expecting to find: I am going to look up any comments they have made about the Israelis and Palestinians. You see, this is the subject where Muslim Freudian slips reveal their true view of terrorism. If they have justified the actions of the Palestinians, if there are any moral equivalency arguments about how Israel is also a terrorist nation, then we will know that these are not peaceful Muslims. We will also know that they have no business being on Homeland Security.

With God as my witness, I know nothing at the time of this writing. But I am quite confident about what I will find. See you tomorrow.

Does The Bible Mean Whatever We Want It To Mean?

On this week's Bob Siegel Show: People believe what they want to believe and instead of admitting that these beliefs do not always square with the Bible, they tend to take certain passages out of context, turning the Bible into a book that suits their own fancy.

This and other subjects are discussed with co-host, Greg Jarvis.
